در این مرحله از فراگیری قاعده های کار باید یاد بگیرید که مخالف ها و رقیب های خود را کنترل کنید.

1.      Identify the opposition. Use contacts to find out who is being called for interview and what sort of competition you are up against.

2.      Study them closely. Who is the ideal candidate? It depends entirely on what the management is looking for.

3.      Don’t back-stab. The one thing you won’t do in your race to the top is back-stab.

4.      Know the psychology of promotion. Study the psychology of whatever is being offered. It may not be quite what it seems.

5.      Don’t give too much away. Keep your own counsel and you won’t go far wrong.

6.      Keep your ear to the ground. You need to get your head up from time to time and look around you.

7.      Make the opposition seem irreplaceable. Your boss is your customer. Your colleagues are the competition.

8.      Don’t damn the opposition with faint praise. Well, you may think that you can get away with saying nasty things disguised as nice things but you can’t.

9.      Capitalize on the career-enhancing moments. There are no bad jobs, only bad attitude to jobs.

10.   Cultivate the friendship and approval of your colleagues. Laugh at their jokes, but don’t go on holiday with them.

11.   Know when to break the rules. Follow the rules until they’re so ingrained they become instinct, and then trust your instincts.
