ریچارد تمپلار قاعده های کار را با قاعده های قدرت تمام کرده است :

 

1.      Knowledge is power. Real power looks effortless.

2.      Be able to walk away. This is at its most effective when the other person cares more than you do.

3.      Know who you’re dealing with. You’re doing this for their benefit as much as for yours.

4.      Be authoritative. You’re allowed to have bad days, but you’re not allowed to let it show.

5.      Be likeable. If people like you they willingly put more power into your hands.

6.      Know who you are. If you can take the job away and still be you, that gives you tremendous strength and power.

7.      Be great at your job. Simply by being good at what you do, you accrue power.

8.      Get people on your side. Quality over quantity.

9.      Be controlled. They won’t agree with you unless they can see that you believe in what you’re saying.

10.   Don’t give it away. Behave like a grown-up.

The Rules of Work: Part 10

در این مرحله از فراگیری قاعده های کار باید یاد بگیرید که مخالف ها و رقیب های خود را کنترل کنید.

 

1.      Identify the opposition. Use contacts to find out who is being called for interview and what sort of competition you are up against.

2.      Study them closely. Who is the ideal candidate? It depends entirely on what the management is looking for.

3.      Don’t back-stab. The one thing you won’t do in your race to the top is back-stab.

4.      Know the psychology of promotion. Study the psychology of whatever is being offered. It may not be quite what it seems.

5.      Don’t give too much away. Keep your own counsel and you won’t go far wrong.

6.      Keep your ear to the ground. You need to get your head up from time to time and look around you.

7.      Make the opposition seem irreplaceable. Your boss is your customer. Your colleagues are the competition.

8.      Don’t damn the opposition with faint praise. Well, you may think that you can get away with saying nasty things disguised as nice things but you can’t.

9.      Capitalize on the career-enhancing moments. There are no bad jobs, only bad attitude to jobs.

10.   Cultivate the friendship and approval of your colleagues. Laugh at their jokes, but don’t go on holiday with them.

11.   Know when to break the rules. Follow the rules until they’re so ingrained they become instinct, and then trust your instincts.

The Rules of Work: Part 9

می گوید اگر می خواهی در کارت پیشرفت کنی باید سیستمی را که در آن هستی خوب بشناسی و از آن بهره جویی کنی. این هم از قاعده های کار است.

 

1.      Know all the unspoken rules of office life. You will be able to outmaneuver anyone by knowing these unwritten rules.

2.      Know what to call everyone. ‘Call me Mr Cutler’. No way, Peter.

3.      Know when to stay late and when to go early. The fear of missing something is very real.

4.      Know thru theft or perks rule. Before you start filling your pockets, make sure it is worth it.

5.      Identify the people who count. Why did Harry count? Because he was my regional director’s father-in-law.

6.      Be on the right side of the people who count. These are the ones who have juice incommensurate with their position or job.

7.      Be well up on new management techniques. Try not to sound out of date when you talk of management techniques.

8.      Know the undercurrents and hidden agendas. Your boss is coming up for appraisal time and needs to look good.

9.      Know the favorites and cultivate them. You have to earn being a favorite, not worm your way in.

10.   Know the mission statement- and understand it. Quoting the mission statement earns you brownie points if you make sure it looks as if you are really on the side of the company.
