The Rules of Work: Part 1
The Rules of Work

- Get your work noticed. The unsolicited report is a brilliant way to stand out from the crowd.
- Never stand still. In an ideal world the riles player will have got their work done by lunchtime, so that they have the afternoon free.
- Volunteer carefully. Before you put your hand up to volunteer for anything, think very carefully.
- Get out a niche for yourself. If the other bosses think you are a good idea then your boss really has to go along with it.
- Under promise and over deliver. You will never deliver late or deliver short.
- Learn to ask why. I’m talking about taking an interest in the whole organization and not just your corner of it.
- Be 100 percent committed. You are going to have vigilant, dedicated, watchful, keen, ready, prepared, cautious, alert and on the ball.
- Learn from others’ mistakes. Every time someone near you messes up, you need to know all about it.
- Enjoy what you are doing. There is no shame in saying you enjoy your work.
- Develop the right attitude. You will take the moral high ground and be blameless.
- Be passionate but don’t kill yourself. It’s not about how you work; it’s about how you feel.
- Manage your energy. It’s your job to make sure that energy is there when it’s needed.
- Never let anyone know how hard you work. To be able to do this you have to be very good at your job.
- Keep your home life at home. No one can enjoy themselves fully when their mind is elsewhere.
